The Trump administration is planning to add Nigeria and six other countries – Belarus, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sudan and Tanzania – to its travel ban list.

Daily Mail reports that US media said on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump was considering adding countries to the travel ban.

The list of countries to be added is not yet decided as it is believed some countries will face bans only on some visa categories.

The move will likely sour relations between Nigeria and the US despite being anti-terrorism partners, with a large base of diaspora residing in the US.

A senior Trump administration official was quoted saying that countries that failed to comply with security requirements, including biometrics, information-sharing and counter-terrorism measures, faced the risk of limitations on US immigration.

Under the current version of the ban, Citizens of Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, and some Venezuelan officials and their relatives are blocked from obtaining a large range of US immigrant and non-immigrant visas.

The news platform said The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to request for comment. Also, the State Department declined to comment.
