2027: Tinubu Names Matawalle Deputy Director Of APC Campaign Council

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved the appointment of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, as Deputy Director, Security and Intelligence 1 of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

The appointment is part of the council’s wider structure established to coordinate the party’s preparations and engagements ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, is expected to support security coordination for campaign activities, including risk assessment, intelligence coordination and engagement with relevant security agencies and stakeholders.

The appointment also assigns him responsibilities relating to the security architecture for campaign activities, with the stated objective of supporting the safety of candidates, campaign officials and supporters during political engagements.

The Ministry said Matawalle’s experience as a former Governor of Zamfara State and serving Minister of State for Defence informed his selection for the security and intelligence role.

Reacting to the appointment, Matawalle expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence placed in him, pledging to apply his experience to support a peaceful and coordinated campaign.

The appointment places a serving defence minister in a political campaign security role while he continues his responsibilities within the Federal Ministry of Defence.
