The governor of Borno, Babagana Zulum, has denied rumors that he intends to switch from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Zulum and five other APC governors were allegedly finalizing preparations to abandon the ruling party, according to a widely shared social media post.

Zulum responded in a statement on Sunday, calling the claim “fictitious and mischievous” and pointing out that political critics had made it up.

According to the statement, “this is completely untrue and only exists in the imagination of its sponsors.”

They are critics who haven’t done anything significant to advance Nigeria or Borno State.

“It is a quintessential case of cheap, politically driven speculation intended only to divert our attention and incite needless political conflict.”

The governor stated that he is committed to Borno’s development and that his “loyalty to the APC remains firm.”

Zulum urged the public and media outlets to only trust reliable, official sources of information.

“I implore the decent people of Borno and the public at large to ignore this falsehood. Our hands are full with the admirable task of restoring and developing our beloved state, therefore we don’t have time for cheap politics,” he continued.

“Under the banner of our great party, the APC, we remain resolute in our commitment to serving Borno state.”
