Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has stated that the commission has learned from the Anambra State Governorship election experience and that future polls will be better conducted and managed.

Yakubu said the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) he used in the recent election in Anambra is reliable, during an interactive meeting with online publishers in Lagos on Wednesday.

“Despite the glitches, BVAS has validated our commitment to expanding the use of technology in the electoral process.”

“I want to reassure Nigerians that the Anambra pilot taught us valuable lessons. “The next major election, the end-of-tenure Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, scheduled for February 12, 2022, will show significant improvement,” he predicted.

Because “elections are held all-year round between one general election and another with no respite,” Yakubu called for the media’s and all stakeholders’ help in ensuring peaceful and credible elections. In Nigeria, there is no longer an election season.”
