‘Take It Easy, You Learnt From Me’ — Akpabio Jokes With Wike Over FCT Projects

0

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Friday, described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike as a performing minister who learnt from him.

Akpabio recalled how Wike visited Akwa Ibom State when he was governor and saw the good works he was doing and vowed to be a performer in any office he occupies.

The President of the Senate disclosed this during the commissioning of the access roads to the Renewed Hope cities and estates in Karsana West District of the FCT to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.

Akpabio, representing Tinubu at the commissioning, said hard work is now part of Wike’s DNA.

Akpabio said: “The performing governor of Rivers State that learnt from me, the minister came to my state once when i was a governor and then he was a minister, he entered the under drainage system, he came out with handkerchief in his hand, saying what is this?

He said if I had the opportunity to be in Rivers State, I would perform miracles, so God gave you the opportunity and you performed well excellently well.

“In fact I became so worried at one time that I came to you and begged you to become governor and not to exceed what I did, so take it easy. If Jesus Christ did all the work for God, there is no need for the Pope, so another governor comes, do not do this just because you saw me working so hard.

“But now it became your DNA, wherever you go you show your hand and God will bless you.

Wike Credits Tinubu, National Assembly for FCT Project Success

0

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Friday, credited the successes of the FCT Administration to the support from President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly.

Wike said Tinubu’s support and the timely passage of the budget of the FCTA by the National Assembly has helped in the implementation of infrastructural projects across the capital city.

He spoke at an event to commission access roads to the Renewed Hope Cities and estates in Karsana District of Abuja to mark Tinubu’s third year anniversary in office as President.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio stood in for the President for the commissioning.

Wike said: “Let me once again thank the Senate President for representing Mr President very well, today is the 18th day of commissioning of projects under the third year anniversary of Mr President.

I said when Mr President came here in 2024 to lay the foundation of the Renewed Hope City, for those of us who were here that day, I was wondering how would anybody bother themselves to come and stay in this area because there was no road, when he was talking about potholes, it means that there is road but bad roads. There was no road for this one, it was terrible.

I remember one of the developers said please all our investments would be vain if there is no road construction here and I said since it’s renewed hope, go home and sleep, we must have to construct the road in this Karsana District.

This contract was awarded last year February 2025 to Lubricks and we thank God today on the third year of Mr President that it’s a different story, story that we have turned around this area and look at how beautiful it is, Mr President, it’s your handwork, its support for the FCT Administration and it would not have been possible if you would not have given us the support and that of the National Assembly to make sure that out budget is passed as quickly as possible.

“I thank the contractor, every time I come here and I would ask them that we are almost in May 29 and they would say we will try our best but you too try your best by payment. “I thank God today that payment is no longer the problem and finishing the work is no longer the problem both parties have fulfilled their own obligation.

Speaking on the development, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele said it is a reaffirmation of the federal government’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian pensioners.

“The payment is an indication of the administration’s commitment to make sure that retired public servants are paid the benefits they labored for over decades of dedicated service,” Oyedele said.

“A nation that prizes service must also pay tribute to those who gave their productive years in its service. This is about people and not just numbers. “It is about restoring confidence, rewarding sacrifice and giving thousands of pensioners and their families the reassurance that they have not been forgotten,” Oyedele was quoted by Head of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry, Efe Ovuakporie, as saying.

“The disbursement covered three categories of outstanding pension obligations that have accumulated over the years,” the Minister said.

It said PTAD paid ₦25,053,703,604.12 to liquidate the outstanding 35-month pension liability due to 9,675 eligible Defined Benefit Scheme pensioners of the defunct NITEL/MTEL.

“The government is mindful of the actual lives behind each pension payment,” Oyedele said.

“Behind every approved payment,” the Minister said, “there is a retiree who served this country well, a family who has waited patiently, and a story that deserves a happy ending.

“We will continue to support initiatives that improve the lives of our senior citizens while maintaining fiscal discipline and accountability.”

PTAD management and staff were praised for the quick execution of the directive, with the successful disbursement hailed as proof of what can be achieved when institutions work together in the public interest.

“PTAD has acted with professionalism in the execution of this exercise. “The Ministry will continue to provide the necessary policy direction and support to strengthen pension administration and ensure that verified obligations are paid as resources become available,” Oyedele said.

The Director-General, PTAD, Mrs. Tolulope Odunaiya, said the Directorate is committed to the efficient pension administration and thanked the Minister for his leadership and support that enabled the release and prompt disbursement of the funds.

Okonkwo was unveiled on Thursday by Atiku, the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, as his spokesman.

All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for Ondo State’s 2027 National Assembly elections have urged party members to accept the results of the party’s primary elections and refrain from protesting, emphasizing that winning the general elections requires unity.

The request was made on Friday in Akure after the candidates returned from Abuja, where the APC ended the uploading of results from its National Assembly primary elections.

Michael Akintomide, the APC flag bearer for the Ondo West/Ondo East Federal Constituency, spoke on behalf of the candidates and urged disgruntled party members to maintain composure and respect the party’s authority, pointing out that the National Working Committee (NWC) had completed the primary process in accordance with the party’s constitution.

“Agitation is not necessary. For the sake of clarity, party supremacy exists and the National Working Committee has spoken. They should disregard anything they post on social media that goes against the party’s stance. Even if there are protests, don’t join them. Have faith in the process. Credible individuals have emerged from the process, according to Akintomide.

He reiterated that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is still the APC’s leader in Ondo State and expressed optimism that the governor and the party leadership would cooperate to fortify the party in front of the 2027 elections.

Akintomide responded to worries that the APC’s electoral prospects would be impacted by differences that emerged from the primaries by characterizing them as a typical aspect of internal party contests.

“People have the right to express their displeasure. However, at the end of the day, we shall come to the round table and grasp that the party is higher than every personal interest. We’ll unite as a team and win,” he continued.

Speaking as well, Jimi Odimayo, the APC’s nominee for the Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency, urged party supporters to support every candidate that emerged from the primaries, claiming that despite the rivalry throughout the nomination process, the APC remained one family.

Odimayo expressed gratitude to Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the APC National Working Committee for their contributions to the smooth running of the primary polls.

“I recommend that all party members embrace the party’s candidates. I suggest that they come together and contribute to the party’s advancement. Our relationship is amazing. He declared, “It’s one family.”

Olumuyiwa Asagunla, the director-general of the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG) in Ondo State, stated that the purpose of the candidates’ reception was to thank President Tinubu and the APC National Working Committee for their support of the party in the state.

According to him, the organization has continued to mobilise, sensitise and empower communities across Ondo State since its inception in March 2024 and is optimistic that the APC would improve on its electoral performance in the 2027 general elections.

Asagunla credited the optimism to the development projects drawn to Ondo State and the accomplishments of the Tinubu government.

He, however, highlighted the need for reconciliation within the party, urging members to place the APC above personal goals and work together to ensure success in the 2019 general elections.

Court Dismisses Abejide’s Suit Against Mark-Led ADC

0

The Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday upheld the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Senate President David Mark, dismissing a suit filed by a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, for lack of merit.

Mark describes the court verdict that confirmed his leadership of the party as a victory for democracy and justice as it reinforces Nigeria’s constitutional order beyond the party itself.

Also, the presidential candidate of ADC, Atiku Abubakar, commended the judiciary for showing courage, independence and fidelity to the Constitution in the face of “sustained attempts by desperate political actors to weaponise the courts against the opposition”.

The ADC has hailed the court for dismissing the case and said the ruling cleared lingering court cases on the party’s leadership.

Justice Musa Liman, in his judgment, held that the preliminary objections raised by ADC, its former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, Mark and its National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, were valid.

The judge held that the court had no jurisdiction to entertain the matter as it bordered on the internal affairs of a political party which he described as non-justiciable.

Justice Liman also ruled that Abejide lacked the locus standi to institute the suit because he failed to prove how his rights were infringed upon by the emergence of the present ADC leadership.
He also held that the lawmaker had not exhausted the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism before approaching the court.

The judge also ruled in the defendants’ favour on the issues raised in the substantive suit.

Liman said the emergence of Mark and Aregbesola as the party’s leaders was legal because the transfer of leadership by Nwosu did not contravene the ADC constitution. He said the July 2, 2025 stakeholders’ meeting where Nwosu handed over the party’s leadership was held before the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of July 29, 2025, which officially produced Mark and Aregbesola as the party’s national chairman and national secretary, respectively, under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court held that the emergence of the duo was in line with the ADC constitution and the Electoral Act, 2026.

Justice Liman subsequently granted costs of N2 million each in favour of the defendants against Abejide. He also ordered that the counsel to Abejide should pay N10 million as costs in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1637/2025, filed on February 15, Abejide sued the ADC, Nwosu, Mark, Aregbesola and INEC, seeking to nullify the handover of the party’s leadership to them on July 2, 2025.

Among other reliefs, the lawmaker asked for an order restraining Mark and Aregbesola from parading themselves as the national chairman and national secretary of the party and an injunction restraining INEC from recognising them as ADC leadership, saying their emergence did not follow the party’s constitution and the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.

THE ruling may have settled the dispute over the ADC’s leadership, but Mark said its implications go far beyond the party.

The party chairman said the judgement re-affirmed the independence of the judiciary and boosted confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process and the right of political parties to operate without interference.
Mark made the comments in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, who described the judgment as another milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and reiterated the ADC’s commitment to constitutional governance.

“This is not just a victory for our party but a victory for democracy, justice and every Nigerian that believes in a vibrant political system where ideas compete freely and the will of the people ultimately prevails,” Mark said.

He said the judgment vindicated ADC’s long standing belief in multi-party democracy, rule of law and the constitutional right of all Nigerians to freely associate and participate in the political process.

Reacting to the ruling, Atiku in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, said the ruling was a victory not for the party alone, but for constitutional democracy and the rule of law.

He said the court’s ruling reaffirmed the long-standing legal principle that political parties are governed by their constitutions and that internal disputes should be first addressed through the mechanisms provided in them.

“[T]he court could not have been more clear. It rightly ruled that the matter is bordering on the internal affairs of the ADC, that the Federal High Court lacks jurisdiction and that the plaintiffs neither exhausted the internal remedies provided by the party’s constitution nor established the locus standi required to invoke the jurisdiction of the court,” the statement said.

Liman’s refusal to allow the judiciary to become an extension of partisan political warfare was lauded by the former Vice President who said the ruling was a reminder that “while political desperation may cast temporary shadows over our democracy, truth and justice will ultimately prevail.”

Ganduje Reaffirms Loyalty to APC Amid Defection Rumours

0

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has reiterated his loyalty to the ruling party, stating that he is not a nomadic politician, nor a vulture “flying from one tree to another” in search of personal ambition or political convenience.

The former governor of Kano State, made the clarification, describing as false, mischievous and politically motivated posters circulating on social media that alleged that he had defected to the New Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement issued by his former Commissioner for Information and Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the posters as a calculated campaign of misinformation aimed at misleading the public, creating confusion among APC faithful and generating needless political speculation.
The statement added that Dr Ganduje has been consistent in his political convictions and has never thought of leaving the APC, a party he served as National Chairman.

He said it was not only false but also illogical for anyone to insinuate that Ganduje had joined the NDC, adding that such a claim was bereft of political and logical foundation.

Ganduje asserted that the APC remains the biggest and most formidable political party in Nigeria, noting its increasing acceptance across the country and the strengthening of its position under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The statement said the posters were the handiwork of desperate political mischief-makers hell bent on tarnishing Ganduje’s reputation and creating unnecessary anxiety within the ruling party.

He also said that the sponsors of the fake posters have been identified and warned that if they do not immediately withdraw the defamatory materials and desist from further circulation, the necessary legal action would be taken against them.

He urged APC members, supporters and the general public to completely disregard the posters, saying they do not represent Ganduje’s political position or intentions.

The statement reiterated Ganduje’s commitment to working with President Tinubu and the leadership of the APC to build on the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda and further strengthen the party ahead of future political engagements.

It also advised the general public to depend only on official communications from Dr Ganduje and the appropriate organs of the APC on his political activities.

Buhari’s Ex-Aide Adesina Explains Why Nigeria Has Struggled to Progress

0

Femi Adesina, the former Special Adviser to late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has called on Nigerian leaders to walk the talk.

Most of the Nigerian youths, according to Adesina, are frustrated because they are not able to secure good jobs or enjoy better quality of life.

This was disclosed by the former presidential aide at the annual public lecture of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Aba Ibeji, Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State, it was gathered.

“Nigeria is being held back by poor leadership and corruption,” he said.

For him, “Nigeria has everything it needs to move forward, a large youthful population, rich natural resources, fertile land, a good geographical location.

“It’s corruption and bad leadership that is holding Nigeria back. “Nigeria is endowed with human and natural resources but unfortunately, it has not translated to wealth.

He said the promises made by past and present leaders of the country have not been fulfilled and he has called on present leaders to turn their words into action so that citizens will benefit from the resources of the country.

Meanwhile, Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, has also condemned the Presidency for defending the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations involving Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew.

Dalung said the official response by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, failed to answer critical questions on how a supposedly fictitious presidential agency operated within government circles.

He said while the Presidency sought to exonerate Gbajabiamila, its explanation revealed gaping holes in government oversight.

“It is up to the Presidency to explain how an individual was able to allegedly forge an appointment letter, operate from the Federal Secretariat, recruit personnel, engage government institutions, meet diplomats and reportedly obtain a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) account without being detected,” he said.

He also questioned reports that the alleged agency was in the national budget.

“If the council was fake how did it make it into the budget,” Dalung said.

He said budget proposals go through several levels of executive and legislative scrutiny before getting approval and asked who presented, processed and approved the alleged provision.

Dalung also queried how the office space was allegedly obtained at the Federal Secretariat, who gave the approval for the allocation of the space and why the operation was not discovered earlier.

He also dismissed reports of the death of Dolapo Babatunde Tanimola, who investigators said was identified by Adeyemi as the one who helped procure the alleged forged appointment letter.

Dalung asked if investigators had performed an autopsy, coroner’s inquest or forensic review of Tanimola’s communications and financial records.

Dalung, however, said while the allegations against Adeyemi were before the court, accountability should not end with the prosecution of one person.

He said the government must explain how its institutions either interacted or failed to detect what the presidency now describes as a fictitious agency.

Dalung asked the Presidency to furnish documentary evidence, timelines and official records on the inclusion of the alleged agency in the national budget, its operations within the Federal Secretariat and the failure of institutional safeguards.

Kenneth Okonkwo: Atiku Appreciated Me, Peter Obi Betrayed My Trust

0

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, said Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, saw value in him.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics, Okonkwo said on Thursday that former Anambra state governor, Peter Obi betrayed him today.

The Nollywood veteran-turned politician said this barely 24 hours after Atiku made him his spokesman.

He said he had publicly ended his relationship with Obi in 2024 after he concluded that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, was not decisive enough to lead Nigeria.

“I continued my job as a public affairs analyst since 2009, before I ever met Peter Obi. You were one of the first interviewers that interviewed me in July 2024 when I said I was not speaking for him anymore because he’s not decisive.

I have seen in him some qualities that make him unsuitable to be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I made it public. I was done with my job with him by then. But I went public so people would know that I was no longer speaking for him and I went my own way and I was doing my own job.

“He was the one who betrayed me,” said Okonkwo.
