The current governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has expressed his confidence that the incoming governor, Siminalaye Fubara, and the deputy governor-elect, Professor Ngozi Odu, will outperform his track record of accomplishments.
Yesterday, while speaking at a public lecture and book presentation held in his honour at the Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt, Wike provided the assurance.
The governor made the observation that his administration was able to achieve the success that is being celebrated because it enjoyed tremendous support from the leaders and people of Rivers State. This support made it possible for him to achieve success.
Because if the Fubara administration fails, it will mean that all of the things that made it possible for him to emerge as the next governor has failed, he requested that the same support be given to his successor. He made this request because if the Fubara administration fails, it will mean those things.

Wike expressed his confidence that the incoming governor and deputy governor would perform admirably, saying, “I have that belief that the incoming governor and deputy governor will do very very well.” On his word, you can always count on something. I can assure you that his answer is a definitive yes.
“He is an accountant; accountants tend to be very traditional. They don’t spend money in any way, shape, or form. They invest their money where they believe it will bring the greatest return to them. Therefore, you should not consider us to be on par. However, he is a very decent human being.
The governor of Rivers State urged the people of the state to comprehend that no two people are identical and that they should not, as a result, anticipate the same level of relationship with the incoming government as they did while he was in office because no two people are identical.
He told her, “Don’t compare the way the incoming administration must relate with you to the way that I must relate with you; no, that wouldn’t be appropriate.” Although we have a variety of approaches, what really matters is that we are able to provide the things that will make our customers happy.
Wike, on the other hand, stated that the newly elected governor of Rivers, Fubara, will be dedicated to delivering on what will make the people of Rivers happy.
“When people were struggling to be governor, he never one day came to me to say sir, I am interested,” the governor said.
“Only those people who have no interest in the state were the ones masquerading as other people and running around. I know those people would sell the state the next day, and I thank God that they have all left.”
He emphasized that the trip had not been simple, but with focus, commitment, and help from God, he was able to overcome the challenges that he faced along the way.
Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, who delivered the 2023 inaugural lecture titled “Democracy, Transformational leadership, and sustainable development: The Rivers experience,” acknowledged the tactically strategic politics of Governor Nyesom Wike, which produced results in the state and beyond.
According to Ihonvbere, “Wike ushered in a new phase of domestic as well as international appreciation of the location of the state in terms of economic calculations.”
“There is no one in the history of the state to whom you can comfortably compare Wike in terms of the state’s infrastructure. Wike is unparalleled.”
