Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has announced his desire to run for President of Nigeria on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, promising to confront insecurity straight on.

On Sunday, he announced his intention in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, while addressing with national delegates of the party at Government House in Makurdi.
Wike, who also urged the party’s delegates not to sell their votes but to consider him for the job, subsequently spoke to reporters, saying that security will be his first concern.
He also urged residents of Benue State to support him in the upcoming party primaries.

“Today, you can’t speak about security anyplace in this nation,” he says, “and without security, you can’t talk about governance.” “When you take the oath of office, you must protect lives and property, and if you can’t protect lives and property, you can’t talk about governance.”

We said, “I need A, B, and C,” and I responded, “OK, I’ll supply A, B, and C,” but I’ll also make sure that the A, B, and C I’ve supplied or given monies for have been provided.” Where have they been if it has been provided?

“The most important thing is to protect life, and we are seeing terrorists attempting to take over an airport for the first time in our nation.” It means flights won’t be able to land, and if they do, it won’t be safe. We were discussing agricultural assaults, but it has already expanded beyond farms.

“What this implies is that security would be our first concern, because as you know, there have been kidnappings on the streets of Port Harcourt in the past, and what did I do about it?”

Everyone had to take a seat; we had service commanders, and we had to figure out what we were going to do.

“And if they are present, we must create incentives for those who will labor in order to encourage them to complete the task.”

Earlier, while speaking to the delegates, the Rivers State governor said that practically all of the party’s presidential candidates were to blame for the party’s failure in 2015.

Wike, who seemed to be slamming former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, said that the majority of them fled the party when it needed them the most.

“Let those who are interested in the president of the PDP tell us about their accomplishments; you claimed to be one of the party’s founding fathers, but you left and returned, and now you are just another member of the new PDP.”

“Assuming you start a firm and flee because it isn’t doing well, you return and discover that it is now doing well, and you want to come in and take over. Is it possible?”

“Some individuals want to utilize Nigeria to resurrect their private enterprises; therefore, let them list their private sector firms that have survived.” “Everyone is an employer of labor; even I have 50 people in my home; thus, everyone has been employing people according to his ability.”

The Rivers State governor also noted that he had stood with the party throughout, through thick and thin, and that he had contributed significantly to its development, but others had not.

“Most of these folks caused us (the PDP) lose the election in 2015,” Wike said.

“I have spoken the truth to authority; I have no issue with anybody, but I must give them the truth.” Because I informed him that you can’t take away our mandate, Umahi and others insulted me.

“As governor, I’ve done well; I can walk anyplace with my shoulders up, and how many of them have challenged this (APC) government?”

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, who praised Governor Wike’s efforts to Benue and the internally displaced persons (IDPs), earlier promised Governor Wike that the people of the state would back his ambition.

“You’ve been assisting us on a regular basis, notably throughout the state’s crisis in 2018.” We’ll back you up since you’ve planted a seed and now it’s time to enjoy the benefits.”

“On Southern presidency, I stand,” Ortom remarked, claiming to be a spearhead of the Southern presidency.
