Wike berates Atiku for wooing Rivers citizens in Abuja

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, has criticized Rivers State as being unsafe while urging voters to support him on Saturday. According to Governor Nyesom Wike, this is absurd.

The governor has declared that the people of Rivers will vote for the presidential candidate on February 25 who they believe will be committed to maintaining Nigeria’s unity.

Wike stated that nothing could persuade him and Rivers voters from the decision they have made to that effect while speaking at Ogbakiri junction in Emohua Council, the location of the flag-off of the reconstruction and dualization of Emohua Road to Abalama/Tema Junction.

Rivers State governor said the people summoned and addressed by presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Abuja over the weekend are not true Rivers State citizens. If such people claim they are truly from the State, he challenged them to return home and be addressed by the presidential candidate as such.

Wike described as unacceptable such summoning of people, who have made themselves non-indigenes in Abuja. According to him, it is an insult to Rivers State and its people for anyone who is seeking for their vote to summon them for a meeting outside of the state.
According to Wike, it would be immoral for the PDP presidential candidate to solicit votes from Rivers State if he is unable to visit the state and address the populace because he has declared it unsafe.

“You are speaking to people from the Rivers in Abuja, is that not offensive? You are unable to visit Rivers State and speak with us. You claim that Rivers State is unsafe, but you still want their support. Will you permit that, Rivers people? The people running for your votes are the ones who declared our state unsafe. It is regrettable. No rational Rivers will tolerate that insult.
