Femi Falana, a human rights attorney, claims that in order to demand accountability from social media corporations, he filed a lawsuit against Meta, Facebook’s parent company.
Falana allegedly sued Meta for falsely linking him to health care and requested $5 million.
During a Monday interview with Channels TV, Nigeria’s Senior Advocate advocate advocated for legislation to control social media.
Although he acknowledged that criticism was essential in a democracy, he pointed out that it was being abused.

“Meta and its owner, Mark Zuckerberg, are not above the law,” Falana said in reference to his odds of winning the case against Meta.

“You are fighting a gigantic corporation, and sure, no one is above the law, therefore I’m really hopeful that you will win. In the UK, Lord Denning seems to have reiterated the idea that no matter how powerful you are, the law always has the upper hand. The goal is to make some of these groups take responsibility and examine their own functioning. It would cause enormous harm if you set up a forum where I could post anything I want.
He continued by saying that “by the time these organizations are forced to pay enormous sums, they will have to examine their system and have some built-in mechanism for check-making reckless publications.”
