Tayo Adeleke, a suspected kidnapper and child trafficker, gave the Ogun State Police Command a confession detailing how he and other members of his gang had been abducting children to sell in the adjacent Benin Republic.
According to reports, Adeleke is currently under police custody and being questioned over an alleged attempt on Tuesday to steal children at the Omu Pempe community in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, along with two other males who are also at large.
It was learned that the suspects used a motorbike to break into the Omu Pempe Baptist Church at around two in the morning.
It was discovered that their goal was to kidnap children from the church and resell them in the Benin Republic.
Nevertheless, a So-Safe Corps agent received a distress call, which she relayed to the local Divisional Police Operator.
According to a source, “when the three men were questioned about their mission in the village, they could not give any cogent explanation as they attempted to flee.”
While confirming the event, Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State police, While his companions fled into the bush, it was revealed that Adeleke, a 25-year-old guy, was captured by the police, the So-Safe Corps, and other vigilante groups in the stated community.
During questioning, the suspect admitted, according to Odutola, that “they came to the community to kidnap children.” According to him, there is a syndicate behind their kidnapping and sale of children to the Republic of Benin. We have one person under arrest, and he will assist in apprehending the others.
Odutola informed our correspondent that kidnappers are attempting to enter villages in order to carry out their operations after noticing that the command has gained control of Ogun’s highways.
“The current tendency is entering communities to abduct people. The Ogun roadways are under our control. Police officers are now visible on the roads. However, the abductors have infiltrated the inner settlements and are now causing disturbances. We’re going to start over, but we’ll get them. This state is not the place for criminals.
In order to protect people and property, we are urging the State’s traditional rulers and community leaders to set up internal security measures, such as blocking off entry and leave points, and providing security personnel with the information they need. Villagers should assist the police since they can recognise foreigners in their areas with ease. Thank heaven it was thwarted.
Odutola continued, “Until criminals are flushed out of Ogun, wherever they are, the Ogun State Command, led by Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu, will not relent.”
