Pope Francis’s remains will be transported to St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. (0700 GMT), the Vatican announced on Tuesday.
The Pope’s remains is now resting in a casket in the chapel of the Santa Marta residence, where he resided during his 12-year pontificate, according to a statement from the Vatican.
The pope passed away from a stroke at the age of 88 on Monday, the Vatican announced, following a bout of pneumonia and stroke.

The Vatican claims that the cleric was hospitalized for five weeks earlier this year due to double pneumonia, after which he suffered a stroke, went into a coma, and finally suffered from “irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.”
Prior to a conclave next month to choose a new leader of the Roman Catholic Church, cardinals will gather on Tuesday to organize his funeral, which will be attended by world leaders.
