The Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria Mr. Mohammed Yahya has lauded the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, as well as the Nigerian Army for creating an enabling environment for them to work in the north east.
Mr. Yahya who is a Pan Africanist from Somalia handed down the commendation when he paid a visit to Buratai at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
According to UN scribe, the provision of security by the Nigerian Army has enabled the body to proffer humanitarian assistance to the traumatised people of the Northeast.
He said his visit was to brief the Army Chief and the Nigerian Army on the successes recorded in the North East courtesy of the Nigerian Army’s role of creating the conducive environment for them to thrive.
He further reassured the UNDP’s resolution to collaborating with the army in rendering more humanitarian services to the displaced people in the region.
Mr Yahya therefore thanked the Nigerian Army and the Chief of Army Staff for integrating the UNDP system for the stabilisation work in the North East.
In his response, the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai thanked the UNDP for the laudable programme they are doing in the north East, and charged in making sure all the IDPS return to the their various homes.
Buratai further promised to sustain on the gains already made in the operational engagement till normalcy returns in the region.
