Ukraine: United States, NATO Must Be Held Accountable

We’ve been fed the same diet every day for weeks, from CNN to BBC to Al Jazeera. We’re at risk of falling prey to intellectual kwashiorkor. As a result, some of us have to scream!

This is not a defense of President Vladimir Putin, who is a ruthless dictator. Fascism, communism, Nazism, militarism, sit-tightism, and all forms of tyranny are all unacceptable to me. Putin is the personification of authoritarianism. The Westminster model of democracy appeals to me. The presidential system of government in the United States is fascinating. I am a Westerner when it comes to the rule of law, freedom, and the right to dissent (the US). I oppose China’s and Russia’s strangulating, despotic governments. They are an open wound in our humanity. North Korea’s Kim Dynasty must fall. Everything must be done to destabilize autocracies around the world. The international community must stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Myanmar (Burma), Chad, Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, and other countries, taking all legitimate measures, including the use of force, to remove unconstitutional governments and power usurpers.

I, on the other hand, reject the month-long mobilization of mass hysteria against Russia via the cable news network (CNN), the British Broadcasting Corporation, and Al Jazeera. I’m not going to be hypnotized. The Ukraine crisis (now a full-fledged war) is a tragedy that has claimed over 14,000 lives. The blame for the deadly unrest falls squarely on Washington’s shoulders. The United States, through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), is secretly obsessed with the goal of becoming the world’s sole superpower. The American establishment despises the concept of ‘balance of power.’ The European Union, the United Kingdom, and other NATO allies are merely pawns on America’s power chessboard. The United States is neurotically opposed to a bipolar world. It will dispense with the services of its so-called allies after achieving the unipolar world of its dreams. Isn’t it true that America recently stabbed France in the back by undercutting it with the Australia-UK-US pact on nuclear-powered submarines in Australia? The uppercut delivered by Washington to Paris was so severe that France was forced to recall its ambassador to the US! It appears surreal; it appears impossible! “Yes, you’re expendable; you’re our ally only on our terms,” the US message to France reads.

Before it’s too late, European member states must open their eyes. Remember ex-UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s famous statement: “I will be with you, whatever!” Yes, the United Kingdom, France, and others accompanied then-President George W. Bush around blindfolded. By the time President Joe Biden withdrew American troops from Afghanistan, he couldn’t recall a single ally with whom he could consult!

I demand an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine while the United States and its allies, as well as Russia, return to the negotiating table. The war must come to an end as soon as possible. There is no such thing as a justified war.

What is NATO’s purpose now that the Warsaw Pact has disbanded? After the fall of communism, the disintegration of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), and the fall of the Berlin Wall, NATO should have disbanded. If there are no ulterior motives, how can you have military bases all over the world? The United States once considered establishing a new military base in the Gulf of Guinea, in Nigeria’s backyard. In the current standoff with the West (the United States), we must align with Russia in order to maintain a bipolar world with power balance. Personally, I don’t want to look back from my grave and see my children and grandchildren enslaved by political, legal, and economic chains. I don’t want to see them at the mercy of strangers or subjected to the whims and caprices of their peers in faraway Washington, D.C. I’m not sure any leader worth his salt in Russia, China, Nigeria, or France would allow his country to be surrounded by annihilation machinery without a proper and proportionate response. Since the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, the US has been moving military machinery to Eastern Europe via NATO enlargement, ostensibly to encircle another superpower, Russia. As a result, Russia is retaliating. The only regret is that this conflict is not being fought on a diplomatic level, but rather through bloodshed, which is clearly unacceptable. There is no such thing as a justified war. There would have been no war in Georgia or Ukraine if the US had abandoned its nefarious plan to encircle or surround Russia militarily in order to emerge as the sole superpower.

NATO should be dismantled as soon as possible by the United Kingdom and the European Union. Otherwise, Europe risks becoming a battleground in a conflict between the United States and Russia, either now or in the future.

In 1989, the world’s communist torchbearer reversed course and renounced a dogma that had polarized the world. The establishment and ultra-nationalists in the United States were ecstatic. “We should abandon the ideological dogmatism that became ingrained during the past decades,” President Mikhail Gorbachev declared in front of a stunned world in February 1990, and followed up the “sacrilege” with an elaborate visit to the United States, where he declared, “The Cold War is now behind us.” Let’s not argue about who won.” That submission, it appears, led the Soviet President to delude himself. There had been victories and defeats in the war. The United States wasted no time in announcing a new empire and a new world order. The American establishment is terrified of an unrestrained Russia. Russia may have lost the ideological battle of communism to US capitalism, but it is not yet drowned militarily, with long-range nuclear missile arsenals, air and sea-launched cruise missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles with chemical weapons not yet fully dismantled, and a host of weather-beaten Cold War generals still in the force. Of course, America is not in a hurry to contain its former arch foe – communism took more than five decades to defeat – but the process of establishing the American Empire must be accelerated under various guises (a process which the US no less regards as supremely adroit). Russia can see through the deception and camouflage, as evidenced by his counter-actions, which have alarmed the US and will almost certainly force the CIA, Pentagon, and military-industrial complex to rethink their strategies. Russia’s counter-offensive in Georgia must be viewed as an effective retaliation to US maneuvering in countries close to its borders. It’s the exact same scenario that’s unfolding in Ukraine. In international law, preemptive strikes are legal. Territory A can take proportionate pre-emptive strikes against Territory B if there is tangible evidence that Territory C will eventually use Territory B to launch an attack on Territory A or compromise its security.

Americans claim to be lovers of liberty, but they have denied it to others. It asserts that Ukraine is a sovereign state free to choose its own path, including joining NATO. Why is the US fighting Iran, a sovereign country, because it has chosen a path that suits it by developing (potential) nuclear weapons?

It is fortunate that the vast majority of Americans do not believe in their ultra-nationalist leaders’ unipolar agenda. The United States must give up its expansionist ambitions and dream of becoming the world’s sole superpower. Starting with the two superpowers, the United States and Russia must lead the campaign to rid the world of nuclear weapons completely. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) must be disbanded immediately, and Russia must withdraw from Ukraine without delay – the war must come to an end immediately. NATO should be dismantled as soon as possible by the United Kingdom and the European Union. Otherwise, Europe risks becoming the battleground in a feud between the United States and Russia, and Europe will be the loser – the United States being thousands of miles away from the front lines. I demand an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine while the United States and its allies, as well as Russia, return to the negotiating table. There is no such thing as a justified war.
