Two Weeks After Returning To Nigeria From Ukraine, A Final-Year Medical student Died.

Mallam Uzaifa Halilu Modachi, a final-year medical student in Ukraine and a Sokoto State native who was among the rescued students, died.

Modachi died two weeks after returning from Ukraine to Sokoto.

When the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out, he was one of many Nigerians who were evacuated from the country.

According to a family source in Kaduna State, the deceased had lived in Ukraine for several years and was a final-year student at Ukraine’s Zaporozhye State Medical University.

Before the Russia-Ukraine conflict erupted, he was said to be studying for his final year exam.

“God gives and God takes life, and that’s how He wanted it to happen, there’s no doubt about it,” his father, Hon. Habibu Haliru Modachi, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, said.

If he died in Ukraine, his father believes that many things would be said about him, including that he was killed by Russian bombardment, had an accident, or was accidentally shot and killed in the crossfire.

“We thank God, and we thank the Nigerian government, especially the government of Sokoto State, for deciding to evacuate them before the full escalation of the war,” he said.

Though details of Modachi’s death were scarce at the time of this report, it was learned that he had been buried in accordance with Islamic edicts.
