The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, (YOSEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje disclosed this while giving an update on the situation.
“This unfortunate incident has resulted in the loss of two lives, injuries to five individuals, and the displacement of 475 households, affecting a total of 2,390 people from four different communities within Mafa Ward”, he said.
According to him, the four affected communities are: Mafa, Bangaro, Ngoyo and Billiri.
He added that the displaced persons were taking refuge in Baban-Gida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa LGA.
He stated that the team of Yobe SEMA, in collaboration with several partners, was conducting a rapid assessment to address the immediate needs of the displaced persons.
“The initial focus will be on providing essential food items, non-food items (such as mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, mats, buckets, and dignity kits), aimed at ensuring the safety and dignity of those affected”, Goje said.
While sympathising with the affected communities, Goje assured them of swift and comprehensive response to their needs during the challenging time.
