A single-vehicle crash involving a white Toyota Camry with registration number AGL36JA occurred at Kere, Itori, along the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos road at about 11 pm on Saturday.
The incident resulted in the death of two children, while seven other occupants of the car were injured.
The accident has been attributed to overloading and excessive speed.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Sunday.
The injured were taken to Ifo General Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were also deposited at the same hospital.
The statement reads in part: “Operatives from the FRSC Itori Unit Command carried out a rescue operation on Saturday, 31st August 2024, at Kere, Itori, following a crash that occurred at about 2300hrs.
“It was a single-vehicle crash involving a white Toyota Camry with registration number AGL36JA.
“A total of 7 male adults, 1 male child, and 1 female child were involved in the crash. The male child and the female child were killed, while the others sustained various injuries.
“The injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and the corpses were deposited at the morgue.
“The suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed and overloading. The car was overloaded with passengers,” Okpe said.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, condemned the crash, describing it as indicative of a disregard for life by the driver and passengers, who saw nothing wrong with the car being grossly overloaded.
Fasakin urged motorists to avoid overloading their vehicles with goods or passengers, as it is dangerous for the driver and other road users and contravenes traffic regulations.
He also extended his condolences to the families of the crash victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
