Troops from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security taskforce based in Jos, Bauchi and Kaduna states, neutralized a kidnapping syndicate of six criminals on Monday.
Major Ishaku Takwa, a spokesman for the OPSH, said in a press release issued Tuesday in Jos that troops also recovered weapons from the gang.
“On Monday, August 23, 2021, troops from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) in Mangu, Plateau state, successfully neutralised a syndicate of six criminals who specialize in kidnapping innocent people.
“The troops also recovered weapons from the bandits that belonged to the Nigerian Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT),” he added.

According to him, the Troops responded quickly to a distress call from the IRT that bandits had attacked the team and taken their weapons in a joint operation with the Divisional Police Headquarters at Mangu.
“The criminals were quickly apprehended and neutralized following a gunfight with the troops.
“The bodies of the IRT members who died, as well as the bodies of the six criminal gangs, were discovered.
“The troops also recovered three AK 47 rifles that had been stolen by the criminals from the IRT team,” Major Takwa said.
Major General Ibrahim Ali, the operation commander, has praised the troops for their quick response, while also charging them to keep up the collaborative efforts and maintain the tempo until criminal elements are wiped out of the plateau state, he said.

General Ali, he said, has ordered troops to take control of all suspected criminal hideouts and deny them freedom of action.
“General Ali also urged citizens to continue to work with Operation Safe Haven troops and to always provide credible security information to the operation,” he said.
