Following the complete failure of Nigeria’s energy grid early on Thursday morning, there is a widespread blackout throughout the whole nation.
On September 14, 2023, at about 12:40 in the morning, the grid reportedly fully failed, severely disrupting the nation’s electricity distribution systems.
On Thursday morning, our correspondent received confirmation of the news from numerous sources in the power industry as well as electricity distribution firms.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc published a warning on Thursday headlined “warning of Total System Collapse.”
The notification read, “The EEDC desires to notify her esteemed consumers of a total system meltdown which occurred at 12:40 am today, September 14, 2023.
The network is currently experiencing a loss of supply as a result of this. This situation leaves all of our interface TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria) stations without supply, preventing us from serving our customers in the states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.
We’re on alert while we wait for more information from the National Control Center in Osogbo about the supply collapse and restoration.
Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, signed the notification.
The TCN, which oversees Nigeria’s grid, is yet to comment on the situation.
A week ago, the transmission company celebrated what it called 400 days of stable electrical grid operation in Nigeria, claiming that throughout that time, there had been no grid collapses.
