Daniel Bwala, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media, asserted that the Nigerian leader is “physically fitter than most presidents in advanced countries” in the face of fresh criticism over his early endorsements for the 2027 elections and frequent medical trips abroad.
According to reports, Bwala made the claim in an interview with DW Africa. In the same interview, he defended the surge of endorsements that followed Tinubu’s midterm in office, calling it an internal All Progressives Congress (APC) tradition.
When questioned about worries about Tinubu’s health and his medical trips, Bwala responded, “The president of Nigeria is actually physically fitter than most presidents in the advanced countries.”

He clarified that the early support for Tinubu’s second term was not a planned political ploy but rather a component of the APC’s midterm procedural review.

“There will be a mid-term assessment as part of our party’s procedure,” Bwala stated.

Therefore, President Bola Tinubu is not at issue. After each midterm, we shall evaluate the president, whoever is in office at the time, to see whether they have performed well enough that we would trust them to remain.

Tinubu passed the evaluation “with distinction,” according to Bwala.

“We measured that he has performed wonderfully well,” he said. Therefore, we are completely certain that we have the backing of our people in 2027.

Bwala emphasized local government autonomy as a crucial step in strengthening democratic governance while highlighting the Tinubu administration’s major accomplishments.

“Introducing local government autonomy is one way to strengthen democracy,” he stated. autonomy that provides administrators or chairmen of local governments with a wealth of resources.

“States have been able to recruit vigilantes and acquire equipment for surveillance, intelligence gathering, and law enforcement support because of this autonomy,” he explained.

Bwala also emphasized Tinubu’s leadership in the fields of agriculture and healthcare.

He added, “We also offered dispensaries, such as free caesarean sections for mothers who are having difficulties giving birth.”

He went on to say that the administration’s rice policy has made food more accessible, particularly for those with modest incomes.

Additionally, we have a rice policy that has made rice accessible to Nigerians at all levels, he stated. Additionally, there are local-level subsidies available to persons for specific prescription medications.

He claims that since the beginning of the administration, almost 10 million Nigerians have been enrolled in the country’s healthcare system.
