President Bola Tinubu congratulated the Liberian government and people on the successful conclusion of the presidential election.

On Saturday morning, the President congratulated President-elect Joseph Boakai via his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale.

He urged Boakai to unite the country and build on public support shown through the ballot box in order to provide excellent administration to Liberians.

He also praised the outgoing President, George Weah, for displaying exceptional leadership by surrendering the election and averting any type of socio-political catastrophe.

He described Weah’s tremendous act of democratic sportsmanship as exemplary, especially at a time when democracy is under attack in West Africa by malicious entities bent on subverting the will of the people.

“I applaud President George Weah for setting a shining example of unwavering patriotism and statesmanship.” He has overcome the myth that peaceful power transitions are impossible in West Africa. “He has shown that the outcome of elections in the sub-region does not have to be used to fuel violence and unrest, and that the will of the people must always be respected,” Tinubu added.

He also commended the Liberians for peacefully expressing their rights and urged them to continue to work for peace and democracy.
