President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to launch the Nigeria Police Green Initiative at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
As an initiative of the Nigeria Police Force, the NPGI aims to promote the “adoption of renewable energy sources” in the environment, a statement issued at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday by the Force Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi partly read.
Among other things, the initiative will also help mitigate the effects of climate change and encourage eco-friendly practices.
“The Nigeria Police Green Initiative is an initiative of the NPF to promote environmental sustainability within our operations and facilities, as well as reduce the environmental footprint of our activities through the implementation of eco-friendly practices and the adoption of renewable energy sources.
“The launch of this initiative will include various activities such as tree planting, the establishment of green zones within police formations and the promotion of sustainable practices among police personnel.
“We believe that through this initiative, the Nigeria Police Force can contribute significantly to the global efforts to combat climate change and protect our environment for future generations,” Adejobi stated.
Earlier on Wednesday, the president had commissioned two landmark projects — the NPF National Cybercrime Centre and the NPF Resource Centre.
Represented by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, the president noted that insecurity in the country “requires a concerted approach by all stakeholders within the security architecture.”
He, therefore, called for the “elimination of inter-agency rivalries” and urged law enforcement agencies to “embrace a coordinated, collaborative approach.”
Adejobi noted that the NPF-NCC “is a state-of-the-art, ultramodern, and digitalised office complex dedicated to anti-cybercrime operations, and will serve as the central hub for national efforts to combat cybercrime, leveraging advanced technology and digital tools to enhance our operational capabilities.”
The NPF Resource Centre, he said, is designed to support a wide range of activities, including training sessions, and conferences, among others.
