Tinubu says, “We must get to the bottom of this heinous incident.”

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former Lagos State Governor and a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has backed Governor Babajide Sanwo-order Olu’s for an investigation into what caused the collapse of the 21-story building on Gerald Road in Ikoyi.

He stated that the government must investigate the heinous incident, while also stating that he did not want to “prejudge anything or anyone.”

“It is clear to all of us that something went horribly wrong. If there has been intentional or reckless wrongdoing, those who have shied away from their basic responsibilities should face severe and appropriate penalties. The departed, their bereaved families, and the people of Lagos deserve and should demand no less.”

Tinubu’s Media Office in Abuja issued a statement yesterday expressing his condolences for the deceased, sympathy for other victims of the incident, and condemnation of the collapse.

“The collapse of a 21-story building on Gerald Road in Ikoyi, Lagos is a sad and painful incident,” the former Lagos governor said in a statement. Once again, and far too frequently, we have witnessed the loss of lives for no justifiable reason. This tragedy should never have happened in the first place.

“No one, including workers at the site, who are simply trying to work in order to care for their loved ones, should have their lives cut short in this way.” Nobody should have to go through what these people did. Families should not have to hear such news or bear such a burden. While we pray for the deceased’s souls to rest in peace, human compassion demands that we do more. During this difficult time, we must reach out to their families with prayers as well as practical support and assistance.

“I sympathize with those who have been injured, and I commend the Lagos State Government for seeing to their immediate medical needs and providing whatever other assistance is needed for them to survive the incident and return to a normal life.”

“The emergency responders are doing an excellent job, and they need our support and encouragement because their job is difficult and dangerous. We hope and pray that others will be found alive and unharmed. Search and rescue efforts must continue indefinitely until whoever is still trapped in the rubble can be rescued.”

“Some tragedies are unavoidable, but most are not,” Tinubu added. We need to figure out what went wrong here so we can work harder to prevent it from happening again. I agree with Governor Sanwo-decision Olu’s to launch an investigation into the tragedy. There are a lot of questions to ask, and all of them deserve complete and public answers.
