Tinubu requests thorough investigation in response to Kwara boat accident

Following the boat accident that resulted in numerous fatalities, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) has commiserated with the people of Kwara State and ordered a thorough investigation.

The Patigi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara on Monday saw a boat accident that resulted in at least 103 fatalities, according to the Kwara State Police Command.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Abiodun Oladunjoye, Tinubu expressed his “deep sorrow” over the news of the tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of his people in Kwara State.

“The tragic accident was made worse by the fact that the victims were attendees at a wedding ceremony.

“Please accept my sincere sympathies and condolences to the families and friends of the tragic accident victims.

“I share the government’s and the residents’ sorrow over the accident in Kwara State. May every family member find solace, the President prayed.

President Tinubu promised that his administration would look into the difficulties of inland water transport in the nation to ensure that the issue of safety and operational standards are strictly adhered to while urging the Kwara State Government and pertinent Federal Government agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the boat accident.

“To identify the immediate and underlying causes of this unfortunate accident, the Kwara State Government and pertinent federal agencies should collaborate.

The President stated that victims’ families and survivors should also receive the immediate relief and support they need.

The deceased were all returning from a wedding in the neighbouring Niger State on Monday when the boat carrying them capsized, according to SP Ajayi Okasanmi of the Kwara Police.

Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Liman, the chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee in Patigi LGA, reported that about 110 passengers perished in the collision.

On the other hand, the governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, expressed sympathy to the residents of Patigi for the boat accident that claimed many lives while leaving some people unaccounted for.

The governor expressed his sadness in a statement on Tuesday regarding the reports of the boat accident involving several people, particularly residents of Ebu, Dzakan, Kpada, Kuchalu, and Sampi, all of which are located in Patigi.
