During his working trip to Europe, President Bola Tinubu appeared to meet with Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, on Tuesday.
Despite The Africa Report’s assertion that Governor Fubara requested the meeting, the Presidency remained silent on the subject.
Attempts to get the president to confirm the meeting failed.
The encounter was important because it was the first time since the declaration of state of emergency that Tinubu and the suspended governor had met in person, according to an insider.

“Months of intense political instability” that had “paralyzed governance” and “threatened national stability” were mentioned in Tinubu’s March 18 national broadcast.
Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, was named the only administrator by the President.
The purpose of the conference, according to insiders, was to resolve the ongoing problem and reduce ongoing tensions.
Restoring a functioning administration in the oil-rich state was reportedly addressed by the two, according to officials.
The conference reportedly discussed possibilities for Fubara’s potential return to power, according to those close to the administration.
Nyesom Wike, Fubara’s estranged political godfather and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was reportedly not present during the meeting and is concerned about its ramifications, according to information obtained.
