Medical professionals and other healthcare workers in the nation will now be able to retire at age 65 instead of 60, as allowed by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Dr. Mannir Bature, the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), revealed this information.
He went on to say that President Tinubu has also given his approval for the distribution and allotment of the money required to pay off their outstanding debts.
Prof. Muhammad Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, has been assigned the responsibility of formally submitting the approval to the Council on Establishment through the Office of the Head of Service for final confirmation, according to Bature.
He said that at a significant meeting with NMA President Prof. Bala Audu and other key health sector players, Pate explained the policy shift.
He claimed that the coordinating minister had confirmed the anticipated disbursement of the unpaid balances resulting from the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) modifications.
According to the minister’s statement, which Mr. Bature cited, President Tinubu has approved the necessary changes to be made to the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) as a result of the new minimum wage’s implementation.
According to him, “the required funds have been obtained, and beneficiary disbursement will soon begin.”
“The procedure to make this remedy is far along, giving physicians and other healthcare professionals much-needed respite.
“The Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners and Nurses (ANPMPN) members will especially benefit from this, as it will guarantee improved financial compensation and sustainability for healthcare services across the country.”
