Abuja, FCT – The triumvirate of Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Peter Obi have begun merger negotiations amid rumours that the ruling of the presidential election petition tribunal may result in a re-run poll. The negotiations between the presidential bannermen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Labour Party (LP) have reportedly been going on in the background for some time, according to a report by ThisDay.
According to reports, Atiku and Kwankwaso began negotiations, which progressed into a meeting with Obi and other PDP stakeholders. According to information received, three resolutions would determine whether the trio would move through with their meeting, as reported by Arise TV online.

According to the article, the three leaders of the opposition party had decided to wait for the tribunal’s decision, which would determine how to proceed with their conversation. This was based on the notion that if the tribunal’s decision was unfavourable, a subsequent phase would take place. The opposition leaders were confident that the tribunal would render a “just and fair” decision to remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to people with knowledge of the discussion.
The insider further revealed that these leaders believed a rerun would occur, which would probably lead to a merger to dethrone the APC and President Tinubu. Merger of LP, PDP, and NNPP in 2027 According to the source, “the meeting started with Kwankwaso and Atiku and they have agreed to bring Peter Obi in to set up a formidable opposition after the court cases. “Although they have not gotten to the point of discussing who will lead the opposition, they are leaving it out for now until after the court cases,” the source continued. The source added that if the tribunal rules in the ruling party’s favour, they would need the choice to use a merger for the 2027 presidential elections. “After the legal proceedings, they will plot and unite for a re-election or stand together in advance to fight the election war in 2027,” the insider stated. They are thinking about creating a powerful party out of the NNPP, PDP, and Labour.
