Three women arrested by Katsina police for concealing petrol in their bags for bandits

A group of police officers patrolling the Katsina-Jibia route arrested a mother, her daughter, and another lady for concealing petrol in their bags to give to forest robbers.

On Thursday, the three suspects were paraded at the state police headquarters by the spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, SP. Isah Gambo.

The suspects are all alleged to be residents of the Malali Quarters in Katsina city, and confessed to having committed the crime in violation of the executive order and other existing laws of the federation.

“These women were apprehended along the Jibia-Katsina road with these luggage, posing as ordinary travelers on their way to Magama in Jibia, a border town with Niger Republic.

“What they do is smuggle petrol to criminals in Jibia woodland, however nemesis caught up with them and they were detained with these exhibits,” says the source.

“These displays you’re seeing aren’t just travel bags; they’re filled with gasoline and designed to be delivered to the robbers in the forest.

“The accused are Umma Bello, 45, of Malali Quarters in Katsina metropolis, Nusaiba Muhammad, 16, and Dija Umar, 50, all of Malali Quarters.

“You might be interested to hear that while confessing to the crime, the suspects also stated that many of them in the region are participating in the business.

“What they do is engage the services of ‘okada,’ motorcycle riders to buy fuel for them in their motorcycle tanks from filling stations and then transport it back to Malali quarters for them where they siphon the fuel from the motorcycle tanks and then arrange it into bags like these to avoid the eagle eyes of security agencies while transporting it to the forest to sell to bandits,” said SP Isah Gam.
