A fire disaster in Fegge Onitsha, Anambra State, destroyed property worth millions of naira, causing chaos.
The event occurred on Thursday, May 8, according to one of the victims, who only gave journalists his name, Jude.
The person who claimed to run a small industrial sewing factory on the building’s upper floor blamed an electrical surge for the fire.
He said to the Daily Post that the fire started at 2:30 am as a result of a shaky electrical supply that continued all night Wednesday, causing large losses.
Jude added that everything was destroyed in the fire, including six more sewing machines, seven industrial sewing machines costing about ₦1.5 million apiece, and an unknown quantity of fabric materials valued at millions of naira.
The landlord, Aaron Ezeobi, was irate and said he had advised his tenant on several occasions not to use the residential property for business or a workshop.
Before the fire, I had previously given him a quit notice that was set to expire the following month. I’m hurting because building materials are so expensive,” he stated.
Emeka Idu, the member of the House of Representatives for the Onitsha North & South Constituency, offered his sympathies to the victims of the recent fire tragedy.
He sent his condolences to the landlord and the renter, encouraging them to maintain their fortitude in the face of their loss in order to avoid any possible health problems.

Idu gave Jude financial help and prayed for a speedy recovery.
In order to provide further support, he also promised to look into the price of the industrial sewing machines.
Idu also asked the landlord to let him know when the damaged building’s roof will be replaced so he may make a financial contribution.
In order to prevent high blood pressure, which might result in stroke, please hold yourself and try not to dwell too much on your loss.
He promised, “The ₦200,000 is to hold yourself for now pending when you are ready to replace the sewing machines. Let us see how we can further assist you.”
