The heads of the security services in the country have been tasked by President Bola Tinubu with making sure that the numerous security dangers facing the nation are defeated.
At a Presidential Security Briefing held on Friday in Abuja at the State House, he assigned the responsibility to the heads of intelligence agencies and security chiefs.
While there has been good progress in eliminating certain security risks across several theaters, the president stated that a final resolution to the multifaceted danger will determine success.
“We currently have an excessive amount of investments that need to be made in social security, MSME development, physical and soft infrastructure, and other growth accelerators. We have set out to build a $1 trillion economy over the next several years, and failure to complete our progressive offensive against those who stand in the way of progress will be a hindrance to our objectives. Be inspired.
“Our people have more faith in your abilities and are grateful for the sacrifices made by our men and women. It is indisputable that you are experiencing success. The avoidable mistakes, as recently seen in Kaduna, are unacceptable and cannot be repeated, despite the fact that Nigerians are seeing it.
While coordination amongst agencies has significantly improved recently, Tinubu asserted, “there is no reason to celebrate until we can put an end to this, until we can return our troops to their home areas, and until we can free up resources for our vital economic expansion program.”
The speaker said that the military must fulfill his goal in order to guarantee that the country reaches a sustainable production level of two million barrels of crude oil per day, including condensates, by the first quarter of 2024.
“My intelligence reports are not a toy. I see in several directions. To the interest of all Nigerians, the Navy and sister branches need to step up their game. Every bad actor will be forcefully removed from our group.
“Justice will be served to those who oppose the national program both within and externally. You know exactly what has to be done. We’ll keep up our momentum. I will not allow failure to happen under my leadership,” the president said.
Along with his Chief Personal Security Officer (CPSO), he also praised the Commander of the Brigade of Guards (BoG), the Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF), and their commitment to their respective duties.
At the State House on Friday, the president also presented his security aides with decorations while making the praise.
The PAF Commander, Air Commodore Olayinka Olusola Oyesola, who was promoted to Air Vice Marshal; Commander, BoG, Adebisi Olusegun Onasanya, who went from Colonel to Brigadier-General; and Police CPSO, Usman Musa Shugaba, who is now a Deputy Commissioner of Police, are the ones who received decorations.
Tinubu expressed his admiration for the officers’ “loyalty and dedication to duty.”
All are urged to serve in Nigeria. Contrary to what you have witnessed, we are the nation’s servants. The assignments and obligations that you have taken on demonstrate your stewardship as leaders in your different categories.
“I hope Nigeria will always honor your commitment to the country,” the president remarked.
In the presence of the spouses of the elevated officers, the President decorated the newly promoted officers with assistance from Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, and Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
Witnesses included Bello Matawalle, the minister of state for defense, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser, the leaders of intelligence agencies, and presidential advisers.
In response, AVM Olayinka spoke for the officers and thanked the president for granting them a promotion and for the opportunity to serve the country.
He gave the Chief of Staff his word that they would remain devoted to their work and loyal to him.
