Ground rent defaulters in the capital city have received one last warning from Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

In an interview with reporters on Monday, Wike cautioned that there would be no further extensions and threatened to take away defaulters’ properties.

After visiting the continuing construction of a six-lane road from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road 3, close to Karmo in Abuja, the minister gave a speech.

Julius Berger’s road project is anticipated to be completed in January 2026.

Nonetheless, Wike claimed that paying taxes in the FCT will facilitate the implementation of initiatives meant to modernize the capital city.

“It’s regrettable that the majority of Nigerians who complain do not want to follow the rules,” stated Wike. You are aware that the president intervened when we began this enforcement to give them an additional two or three weeks, and it has now been more than four months.

“We can’t complete these projects without people paying their taxes. We also published extensions, and since they tend to rush things, if you don’t enforce them, no one will go and pay.”

“We think this is the last time, and we won’t be extending any further.”

“You are aware that the right thing must be done; if you don’t pay, the property belongs to the FCT Administration.”
