The Indian Embassy in Abuja commemorated the country’s 75th anniversary of independence Wednesday.

A big number of Indian citizens living in Abuja as well as Nigerian friends attended the event.

The Indian community took advantage of the chance to showcase their rich culture, which included dance and various Indian songs.

“It is a matter of great satisfaction for me to greet all Indians, residing in India and abroad, a very happy Independence Day,” said the President of India, Shri Ram Bath Kovind, in an address read by the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abey Takur.

“This day has special significance since it marks the start of the 75th year of India’s independence, which is being commemorated with the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsay,’” he remarked.

Independence Day, he says, is a festival of freedom for us, and that it was made possible by generations of freedom fighters, some well-known and others obscure. They had to make a lot of sacrifices.”
“Our nation, like many others, has suffered immense injustices and tyranny as a result of foreign rule,” he remarked. What sets India apart is the fact that our nationalist struggle, led by Mahatma Gandhi, was founded on the principles of truth and nonviolence.
