On Tuesday, the Supreme Court postponed making a decision on the Peoples Democratic Party’s appeal against the ruling of the appellate court that reinstated Abdullahi Sule as the governor of Nasarawa State.

The five-member panel, presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, heard the arguments made by the attorneys on the appeal and postponed the matter for a decision.

Parties would be informed when the judgement is ready, according to Kekere-Ekun.

The governor was removed from office by the state election petition tribunal, which also proclaimed PDP candidate David Ombugadu the victor of the March 18, 2023 election.

By a divided vote of two to one, the tribunal presided over by Ezekiel Ajayi determined that the PDP candidate had provided evidence to support his allegation that Sule had benefited from manipulation of the poll results.

However, the appellate court upheld Sule’s reinstatement and declared that the tribunal had erroneously depended on the testimony of eight PDP witnesses, whose sworn declarations had not been front-loaded with the petition.

On the other hand, Ombugadu appealed the ruling to the highest court.
