It was only six weeks ago that Abdalla Hamdok, the Sudanese Prime Minister, was reinstated by the military regime, but now he has quit. Sunday, January 2, 2022 was a big day for him. He announced his resignation on TV.

As you might remember, Sudan’s top general, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, dissolved the country’s sovereign council and arrested the country’s top politicians.

In the end, the Prime Minister was re-instated by the General. However, Sudanese people have taken to the streets to protest both the coup and the deal to reinstate the Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, which they think was done with a lot of help from someone else.

Following the huge protests, the prime minister has stepped down, saying that he has tried his best and wants to give the job to someone else.

He said he was giving back the trust that people had put in him and that he was resigning as Prime Minister so that another of the country’s sons could finish the job and pass through it during the rest of the transition to a civil and democratic state.
