Three days a week of labour are required for workers at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State.
This information was provided in a declaration made public by the organisation in a special release numbered 4642, dated August 14, 2023, and signed by G.O. Saliu, Registrar and Secretary to Council.
The decision, according to the statement, was made in light of the recent removal of Premium Motor Spirit subsidies.
In the statement, it was stated that the majority of Nigerians were experiencing severe economic hardships due to the “astronomical increase in the price of fuel at the pump precipitated by the termination of subsidy by the Federal Government.
Salary workers who go to work each day experience a worsening of the condition due to the accompanying increase in transportation costs and living expenses.
“After carefully analysing the circumstances, University Management advised a temporary change to the work schedule for staff members, which Senate at its meeting on Thursday, August 3, 2023, considered and accepted.
As a result, starting on Monday, August 14, 2073, employees are required to work three (3) days on-site each week in a rotating fashion.
However, it should be noted that people performing important duties are not subject to this change.
“Management should also be aware that as things get better, they’ll review the arrangement. Staff members must continue to be committed, transparent, and cooperative in order to ensure a free flow of work, even working from home as needed.
In light of the aforementioned, management requests the cooperation of all deans, directors, heads of departments, and heads of units in order to ensure that the intervention is implemented smoothly.
