President Bola Tinubu’s government and security services were allegedly the target of a scheme, according to the State Security Services, SSS, to organise violent protests.

In a message released on its X account on Monday and bearing the signature of SSS spokesman Peter Afunanya, the secret police made this disclosure.

The message claims that student leaders, young people, ethnic-based organisations, and disaffected groups are being organised for the protests.
However, Mr. Afunanya disclosed that the service has located the “ring leaders of the plot,” who are now being watched.

It states: “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby informs the public that it has uncovered plans by some elements in some parts of the country to stage violent protests in order to discredit the Federal Government and security agencies over various socio-economic matters.

According to intelligence assessments, the plotters also include certain politicians who are frantically rallying youth, dissatisfied groups, ethnic-based groupings, and student leaders for the intended action. To prevent them from throwing the nation into anarchy, the service has in the meantime tracked down the plot’s ringleaders and maintained surveillance around them.

“In light of this development, university vice chancellors and heads of tertiary institutions are recommended to dissuade their students from engaging in acts that could disrupt public peace.

“Parents and guardians are also urged to warn their children and wards, respectively, to resist the temptation to engage in unlawful behaviour or conduct.

“While the DSS is aware of the government’s efforts and resolve to address some of the issues facing the country, it cautions those wishing to undermine national security to retrace their ways.

“This is more so that it won’t hesitate to legally come against people and groups behind the cunning plans,” the author continues.
