Israel Adesanya, a former middleweight champion of the UFC, has declared his intention to retire from MMA following his rematch with Brazilian MMA fighter Alex Pereira.
The Nigerian star lost his belt last year after suffering his third defeat in his boxing career at the hands of seasoned foe Pereira. Israel Adesanya has the impossible task of defeating Pereira at UFC 287 on April 9 in Miami.
Since joining the UFC, Adesanya has fought only once in the middleweight division, a fight he unfortunately lost. If he wins back his title later this year, he still has a lot of work to do.
The 33-year-old has said that he wants to reclaim his title as the division’s king and that he intends to try to end his career on a high note.

Adesanya has experienced rapid growth in the martial arts community and is currently second among UFC fighters in terms of pay, just behind his close friend Conor McGregor.
After being stopped in the final round of his two kickboxing losses to the Brazilian, he will be looking to exact revenge this time. The New Zealander with Nigerian ancestry still holds a 23-2 record.
Adesanya asserted that his time in the UFC is running out at a press conference in Australia before his rematch with Pereira.
I’ve been in the UFC for five years, right?” he remarked.
“If I’m being completely honest, I won’t be around in five years. I have other responsibilities in my life. I’m really good at this stuff, and I love doing it, but I never commit to it, so I’m always going to come out on top.

“So, yeah, I think you ought to leave there,” I said. But once more, it went like that because I’ve been a UFC fighter for five years. I won’t be here for five years, but we’ll see how long I stay.
