Adebayo Shittu, a former minister of communications, has cautioned that giving amnesty to bandits is a sign that the nation will continue to produce criminals.

Shittu disclosed this information on Wednesday during a live appearance on the current affairs program “Frontline” on Eagle 102.5FM in Ilese Ijebu, Ogun State.

According to reports, Shittu, a native of Oyo State, was a minister in the government of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

A few days ago, the Katsina State authorities announced that at least seventy (70) accused bandits had been freed under a peace agreement. This article explains why we freed 70 suspected bandits in Katsina.

However, Shittu stated on the DAILY POST-monitored radio program on Wednesday that any attempt to provide amnesty to bandits would encourage greater criminal activity in the nation.

“You might as well open the prisons if you grant amnesty to hundreds of criminals.” It conveys the incorrect message, he said.

Speaking about the decision of some opposition politicians to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Shittu claimed that the lawmakers’ defection to the APC was caused by instability in the Peoples Democratic Party and other political parties.

“People will relocate to areas with stability when parties mismanage themselves, but nobody wants a one-party state. “That’s basic math,” he continued.
