Ayo Arise, a former senator from Ekiti North, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform proposals, arguing that Nigeria cannot exist without taxes of some kind.
This is what Arise said when she spoke on Monday.
“A country cannot exist without some kind of taxation. The nation cannot increase its revenue in any other manner.Everyone realizes that this nation can no longer survive on just one product, which is why we have been discussing the withdrawal of subsidies.

“The president wants the nation to earn more money. Nigerians are exporting more now than they did under any prior administration, if you look at the excise taxes. These are a few of this government’s accomplishments. Individuals are starting to produce. They’re shipping in large quantities. They are exporting our clothing as well as our culture.
Along with other goods like cashews, they are exporting our fabrics. I asked the Comptroller-General of Customs some questions about our exports during our conversation. People used to bring in a lot of goods in the past, but the ship would return with virtually little cargo. That is no longer the case.
“So things are improving in terms of activities at the Customs because we are expecting more,” he said.
