Godswill Akpabio, the candidate who has garnered the support of the majority of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to win the election for the position of Senate President in the 10th National Assembly, may suffer some defeats.
This may be the result of the rumoured covert conflict that has been going on between President Bola Tinubu and Abdullahi Adamu, who is the National Chairman of the APC. It was picked up on.

It appears that Adamu is not concerned or bothered by the opposition that Akpabio is facing from other aspirants of the party who have refused to step down for party supremacy to prevail. There are strong indications that this is the case.

According to the information gathered by this platform, neither the President nor Adamu have participated in any one-on-one meetings since the latter’s inauguration, and there are rumours that the ongoing conflict between the two elephants may have an effect on the rise of Akpabio.

According to The Whistler, it was this alleged cold war between the two that caused Adamu to be reluctant to call and instil discipline where all candidates within the party opposing the president’s choice stepped down from their positions.

Also, it was learned that Akpabio attempted to meet with Adamu over the weekend in order to seek his support by concocting ways for opposing candidates to step down, but his efforts were in vain. Akpabio’s meeting with Adamu was unsuccessful.

It has been speculated among members of the APC that Adamu is less concerned about who will become the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives because neither of those individuals would be his choice for those top leadership positions.

It is important to remember that Salihu Moh Lukman, who is the Zonal Chairman of the APC for the North West, had earlier accused Adamu of working against the zoning arrangement that the party had established.

He claimed that in spite of the fact that Adamu was obligated to support the zoning arrangement for the principal offices of the 10th Assembly, “he is acting as a factional leader opposing the decision of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC.)”

Lukman had stated that “Instead of working for the success of the decision of the NWC through activating meetings of higher organs of the party to confer more legitimacy to the decision of the NWC, he seems to be more interested in ensuring that the 2015 model of rebellious leadership emerges in the 10th National Assembly.” Lukman’s statement was made in response to the fact that the NWC had made a decision.

To make matters even more difficult, sources within the party have revealed that members of the NWC are also busy lobbying for ministerial appointments, and as a result, they are less bothered about who emerges as what. This is a significant development that will only make matters worse.

On Sunday, it was learned that concerted efforts were being made to eliminate the most formidable opponent of Akpabio, the former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul-Aziz Yari, by co-opting his most formidable ally, Orji Uzor Kalu, who is the immediate Chief Whip of the Senate.

A member of the Murkta Betara camp who claimed to have joined the APC during its formative years told The Whistler that “The National Working Committee of the APC is not bothered because those announced as the choices of the party were those selected by the president,” adding that “the party could have shown more interest if it “had a say” in the matter.

However, a member of the Akpabio camp has stated that efforts are still being made to ensure that the party’s National Chairman views “the project as his and the party’s rather than the president’s, he has to see it that way,” according to the source.
