The Senate lamented the collapse of a 21-story building in Lagos State’s Ikoyi neighborhood on Tuesday.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu of the Lagos Central Senatorial District raised a point of order on the issue, which led to the senate’s decision.
A minute of silence was observed in the red chamber in honor of the victims of the building collapse.
Last week in Ikoyi, Lagos, a 21-story building collapsed, killing approximately 42 people.
According to Tinubu, 16 people were rescued alive, with efforts to save others still trapped inside the ill-fated structure ongoing.

In his remarks, Senate President Ahmad Lawan urged professional organizations to ensure that only competent and qualified individuals were involved in construction projects.
Lawan tasked the Nigerian Council of Registered Engineers and other construction industry bodies with ensuring that only professionals were hired for construction projects.
“This is one collapse too many, and it is unfortunate,” he said. This is a call to COREN’s leadership and other construction industry professional bodies to maintain the highest level of competence.
“They should also ensure that only qualified and certified professionals work on construction projects to avoid tragedies like the one in Ikoyi.”
