Senate approves four-members board for NMDPRA

The Senate confirmed four nominees for members of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority on Thursday (NMDPRA).

Idaere Gogo Ogan is the Chairman, Farouk A. Ahmed is the CEO, Abiodun Adeniji is the Executive Director of Finance and Accounts, and Ogbugo Ukoha is the Executive Director of Distributions System, Storage, and Retail Infrastructure.

The confirmation of the nominations came after the Senate Committee on Downstream Petroleum Sector considered a report in plenary.

Senator Sabo Mohammed (Jigawa South-West), the report’s chairman, stated that the nominees’ appointments were made in compliance with section 34(3) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021.

“The nominees possess the technical knowledge and professional competence necessary to serve as chairman, chief executive, and executive directors of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority,” he says.

He said the committee had not received any petitions challenging their nominations, and that they had been cleared by the Nigerian Police Force’s Department of State Services (DSS) and had the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement Slips.

Senator Ajibola Basiru (Osun Central) said the executive-legislative partnership has paid off with determined efforts to stabilize the Nigerian economy, notably the oil and gas industry, with the passage of the Petroleum Industry Act.

“I believe it is important to emphasize this so that Nigerians are aware that the country is prepared to fully utilize and optimize the benefits of the oil and gas sector,” he said.

The Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, stated in his remarks that the nominees are well-positioned to establish the groundwork for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority.

As a result, he recommended the confirmed nominees to cooperate with the relevant National Assembly committees to secure favorable outcomes in the oil and gas sector.

“They have to work hard and be selfless,” Lawan remarked. What they accomplish will have a huge impact on the transformation of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
