The Humanity Services Project, or HSP, encouraged the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday to reconsider and approve the names of the commissioner-nominees that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had forwarded to them.

22 nominees for commissioner were approved by the Assembly while 17 were rejected.

Those rejected include Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Mr Yomi Oluyomi, Mrs Folashade Ambrose, Ms Barakat Bakare, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, Engr. Olalere Odusote, Dr Rotimi Fashola, Mrs Bolaji Dada, Mr Sam Egube, Mr Olalekan Fatodu, Mrs Solape Hammond, Mr Mosopefolu George, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, Mr Seun Osiyemi, Mr Rotimi Ogunwuyi, Dr Olumide Oluyinka.

In its response, the HSP voiced concern that many of those let go were capable individuals who helped the governor succeed during his first time in office, noting that they must have been vetted and trusted.

The governor is “in the best position to know who has satisfied him in his first term among those he wishes to return,” according to the convener of the group, Mr. Linus Okoroji, in a statement.

However, he cautioned that any effort to persuade the governor to modify his views would amount to “arm-twisting that may not augur well for the polity.”

In the interest of the state, Okoroji encouraged the governor to represent the names before the Assembly.

“We want to remind the House how important the governor’s promised improved second term is,” he stated. To fulfill his commitment as a man who always follows through on his words, all hands should be on deck. For the benefit of the populace, we implore the legislators to work assiduously to maintain and develop the executive-legislative synergy.

Therefore, we caution that if the necessary is not done to the satisfaction of the group and the majority of the decent people of the state, a massive peaceful protest cannot be ruled out because we will not lay down our arms and allow anyone to play politics with the fate of the people.
