On Sunday, Bordeaux attacker Samuel Kalu fell on the pitch in a scorching 30 degree French Ligue 1 match at Marseille.
During the early phases of the contest, the 23-year-old Nigerian international passed out and sank to the Stade Velodrome floor.
Concerned teammates swarmed around Kalu, waving their hands furiously to the bench, requesting medical assistance.
Kalu managed to stand up after a few heart-stopping minutes, but Remi Oudin was called in to take his place.
Christian Eriksen of Denmark suffered heart arrest in a Euro 2020 match just two months prior to this incident.
“We were both shaken by Kalu’s occurrence. It’s usually a little frightening for fans and players on the field,” added Oudin, who went on to score in the 2-2 tie.
“We’re thinking about it after what happened with Eriksen at the Euros. Everyone was a little frightened at this point. It all worked out in the end.
“The doctors say it’s just a minor annoyance, but he’ll be tested on Monday.”
Kalu was admitted to the hospital in June 2019 after becoming dehydrated while training with Nigeria during the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt’s scorching heat.
Coach Vladimir Petkovic of Bordeaux stated, “I was thinking about what happened during the Euro.”
