The club has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the number seven shirt when he returns to Manchester United, taking it from current holder Edison Cavani.
On transfer deadline day, the 36-year-old completed a sensational return to Manchester United, joining on a two-year deal from Juventus.
Ronaldo wore the number seven shirt during his first six seasons at Old Trafford.
Before moving on to Real Madrid in 2009, he helped Sir Alex Ferguson’s side win the UEFA Champions League and three Premier League titles during that time.
Edinson Cavani will now wear the number 21 for Manchester United, according to the club.
However, there was no mention of whether the Premier League had granted special permission to complete the switch after the start of the domestic season.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will once again wear the number 7 for Manchester United, as he did from 2003 to 2009.” The number 7 is a special number in Manchester United’s history, as we all know,” the club said on www.manutd.com.
“It has been worn by club legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, and David Beckham in the past. Now it’s back to Ronaldo, the man who took over for Beckham.
“Ronaldo takes over the number from Edinson Cavani, who wore it last season and in our away win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
El Matador will switch to number 21, the same number that our prolific striker wears for the Uruguayan national team, because our new signing has been assigned number 7.
The Portuguese captain set a new men’s international scoring record on Wednesday night.
In a dramatic finish at the Estadio Algarve, he scored a late double as Portugal came from behind to defeat the Republic of Ireland 2-1.
Ronaldo was cautioned after removing his shirt in celebration during stoppage time.
The forward is suspended for Tuesday night’s match against Azerbaijan after receiving a booking earlier in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
