According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), 149 people died and 1572 were injured in 859 road accidents in Abuja between January and November this year.
At the 2021 Special Marshal Sectorial Workshop in Abuja, Oga Ochi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the Federal Capital Territory, revealed this.
According to him, many of the accidents were caused by road users’ disobedience of traffic rules and a lack of patience.
Overspeeding was found to be the cause of 75% of road accidents, according to him.
He stated that unless the trend is reversed, it will have a significant impact on economic growth.
“If this trend is not addressed and reversed quickly, it could become a major impediment to FCT’s economic growth,” he said.
