Residents storm Soludo’s home after he wins 18 LGAs in Anambra

On Sunday night, supporters and well-wishers of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate Prof.Chukwuma Soludo gathered at his home in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, rejoicing as they awaited the election result.

According to reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Soludo the winner in 18 of the state’s 20 Local Government Areas.

He was elected to the local government areas of Dunukofia, Awka South, Oyi, Anaocha, Ayamelum, Anambra East, Idemili South, Onitsha South, Njikoka, Orumba South, Onitsha North, Idemili North, Ekwusigo, Aguata, Orumba North, and Nnewi South.

Mr. Valentine Ozigbo came in second with 51, 322 votes, followed by Soludo who received 103, 946 votes.

Sen. Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who came in third, received 42,942 votes.

Hundreds of political associates, youths, and women flocked to Soludo’s residence in Isuofia as they awaited the results, according to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).

Some residents told NAN that they thought the PDP candidate would win at the end of the election process.

Mrs Chioma Ocha expressed her delight at the prospect of a governor from her community.

“We’ve come to show our support for our brother and son as we wait for INEC to release the final results.”

“However, I’m especially pleased that my hometown of Isuofia will produce the next governor of Anambra. “That is a huge accomplishment,” she said.

Mr Chinedu Ogubuiro, who also spoke, said he came to celebrate with Soludo ahead of INEC’s announcement.

He said, “I am one of Soludo’s kinsmen, and I want to be there to celebrate with him when INEC announces the election results.”

Soludo, who sang along with the crowd, urged them to be patient as INEC works to announce the election results.

Meanwhile, INEC has halted the collation of results while the election in Ihiala Local Government Area is held.

Prof. Florence Obi, the INEC Returning Officer for the Anambra Governorship election, explained that the election was suspended because it could not be held in the LGA due to security concerns.
