On Tuesday, the Committee on Army of the House of Representatives vowed to stand by the Nigerian Army as it works to ensure that everyone in the nation is safe and secure.

At the panel’s inaugural meeting at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Abdullahi Mamudu, the chairman of the committee, provided the guarantee.

He also revealed that the committee has created a four-week work plan to help it fulfill its purpose and serve the interests of all Nigerians.

The legislator welcomed the attendees and stated, “Let us take this responsibility with all seriousness and know that in order to be able to end the several challenges we have been having in terms of insecurity in the country, we must put the Nigerian Army on a proper pedestal.”

The House Committee on Army is one of the Standing Committees of the National Assembly’s House of Representatives, empowered by Section 62 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, as amended, and Order XVIII B Rule 131, Ninth Edition, Standing Order of the House of Representatives, 2016.

The Nigerian Army’s operations are to be overseen by the Army Standing Committee, which was established by Order XVIII Rule 131. The Committee may also discuss any topic at hand with a clear mandate from the House.

The Nigerian Army, its development projects, its landed property and appurtenances, its barracks, ammunition depots, forts, arsenals, reservations, and installations, as well as the Army’s annual budget estimates, are all included in the committee oversight mandate.

“The Legislature is the only institution that separates democracy from other forms of government,” he continued. We also aspire to accomplish what other democracies have done, which is the military and parliaments cooperating. The committee has a secretariat run by a clerk of the committee, who is expected to carry out his responsibilities with loyalty, thoroughness, and unwavering devotion to committee assignments.
