The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, has charged Governor Douye Diri with hiring spies to track his whereabouts.
In a statement yesterday, Sylva said that reliable information at his disposal showed that the state’s spies, particularly those at the Bayelsa International Cargo Airport, had been instructed to track and report his activities within the state to an off-grid security infrastructure.
However, in a prompt response, Diri’s main press secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, stated that the state governor is a well-known pacifist and an advocate of politics without resentment, adding that he would not shed blood to win reelection.
Alabrah remarked that the previous governor is skilled at accusing people of things they haven’t done, and he added that, based on his past behaviour, he thinks Sylva is the one who is really behind what he is accusing the governor of.
In order to compromise the governor’s convoy, Sylva alleged that the governor’s close security assistant was coordinating the spy activities.
He urged law enforcement officials and the general public to pay attention to Diri’s use of violence against him and the Bayelsans as a whole, with a special emphasis on Opu-Nembe.
He asserted that any incumbent governor seeking reelection used the tactic of launching projects to win over the public, but that since Diri was unsuccessful in winning reelection, he turned to desperation, violence, and dishonest tactics.
“The Bayelsans are tremendously aligned and Sylva’s push to Creek Haven is an act of emancipation. The spirit of Bayelsa State will be saved from the fangs of individuals that use violence as a fruitless cover for their ineffectiveness, he added. The shift is imminent and certain.
Sylva’s assertions were refuted by Alabrah, who stated, “It is on record that for the first time in the history of elections in Bayelsa State, the country’s general election in February/March was so peaceful in the state that there were no known incidences of carnage and killings in contrast to the previous. This was caused by the governor’s calm demeanour, which pervaded the state’s politics.
“Chief Sylva is skilled at making up problems. We think he is responsible for preparing what he is accusing the governor of based on his prior behaviour. But it is best to disregard the rants of someone who is drowning and looking for a straw to hold onto or who is trying to find an explanation for why his governorship project failed. His absolute rejection by his party’s leadership, his Nembe/Brass supporters, and the Bayelsa electorate.
