PSC approves Mba, Ciroma’s appointments as DIGs

Frank Mba and Bala Ciroma, who were previously assistant inspectors general of police, have been appointed as deputy inspectors general of police with the approval of the Police Service Commission.

Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s spokesperson, said this in a statement on Friday.

Ani pointed out that DIG Ciroma will take DIG Ali Janga’s place as the North-East geopolitical zone’s representative on the Police Management Team, while DIG Mba will take the place of retired DIG John Amadi as the South-East zone’s representative.

“DIG Ciroma, the highest ranking zone officer, will going forward represent the zone. In place of retired DIG John Amadi, who previously represented the zone, DIG Mba will represent the South-East zone, according to a statement.

The commission also approved the promotion of 22 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive rank of Commissioners and the promotion of 14 Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police.

According to the PSC, these decisions marked the high points of the commission’s 21st plenary, which was presided over by its chairman, De Solomon Arase, a former inspector general of police, and was attended by all of the commission’s members, including Dr. Ifeoma Anyanwutaku, the permanent secretary/secretary to the commission.

Abubakar Lawal, Alhassan Aminu, Abdul Umar, Shettima Zannah, Ebong Eyibio Ebong, Adepoju Ilori, and Okon Effiong, all former CPs, are the new AIGs.

Echeng Echeng, Susan Horsfall, Bankole Lanre Sikiru, Oladimeji Olarewaju, Sani Gwarzo, and Odama Ojeka are additional former CPs.

Abibo Reuben, Thomas Nabhoni, Wakil Salamai, Enyinnaya Inonachi, Ronke Okunade, and Adekunle Olusokan are among the 22 former deputy commissioners of police who have been promoted to the rank of chief police officers.

Aside from Hassan Yabnet, Festus Oko, Aminu Raji, Omolara Oluntola, Akoh Gabriel, Alamutu Mustapha, Bafda Jahun, Ahmadu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Mu’azu, they also include CPs.

Bretet Simon, Ihebom Chukuma, Shettima Qurtu, Olatokunbo Olabisi, Yusuf Lawal, Monica Leo, and Abaniwonda Olufemi are additional former DCPs.

The promotion of 24 Assistant Commissioners of Police to the position of DCPs was also approved by the commission.

They include Wan Chongs, Commander PMF 19 Port Harcourt; Baba Audu, Area Commander, Exeter Akwa-Ibom State Command; Mohammed Shamsudeen, Assistant Director, OPS, Kaduna (NCCSALW); Khan Usman, Networking Admin ICT FHQ, Abuja; and Ezekiel Ibrahim, Project Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
