Prof. Rufai Alkali, the National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has resigned from his position.
In a letter to the party’s national secretary, Alkali reaffirmed this.
He claimed that the reason he chose to leave was to make room for a new leader to step in.
“I am certain that I must be the first to change.
“For this reason, I have made the responsible decision to resign from my position as our party’s national chairman in order to make room for new leadership that will build upon and enhance our modest contributions.

The letter stated, in part, “I wish I had done more.”
The letter was addressed to Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s national leader and the party’s nominee for president in the just-concluded elections.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees Boniface Aniebonam and Secretary of the Board of Trustees Buba Galadima were also copied.
